Kalen Legal was set up by Odhran Banim, a commercial lawyer with significant experience advising clients on a range of corporate and commercial matters. Prior to setting up Kalen Legal, he worked with a leading Irish law firm and has held senior legal roles in the asset management and investment banking sectors. More recently he worked as a general counsel with an international hotel group.

In setting up Kalen Legal, the objective has been to bring a business and consultancy led approach to the provision of legal services. With the twin service offerings of Kalen Legal and Kalen Connect, the firm not only provides core legal services to commercial clients but also provides inhouse legal support services to existing legal functions and business operations support to management teams.


The firm is building a high-calibre network of legal consultants to complement its core practice and in so doing, enables Kalen Legal to provide specialist expertise across a wide range of legal areas. It engages consultants who are experts in a variety of disciplines including telecommunications law, HR management, commercial contracts and commercial real estate.

By harnessing this pool of talent, Kalen Legal can provide access to specialist knowledge across a wide range of legal disciplines and can scale its support up or down in line with clients’ business demands. The firm can deliver legal services in a cost-effective and efficient manner.


Areas of Expertise:

  • Advising CEO and COO on strategic projects relating to financial services outsourcing; CBI regulatory requirements; asset liability management; and balance sheet compression.

  • Supporting Treasury and Finance teams in transactions relating to buy back of asset covered securities (€3 billion deal value) and advising on covered bond programmes; structured finance and SPV funding.

  • Advising COO and C-suite in material outsourcing of Operations and Sourcing departments to third party service providers.

  • Working with multinational organisations on full lifecycle of commercial agreements with customers, suppliers and partners, with particular experience in the telecommunications and technology sector.

  • Advising on telecommunications network infrastructure arrangements, framework agreements, outsourcing arrangements, managed services, and cloud/SaaS contracts.

  • Supporting commercial clients in navigating legal and regulatory frameworks through the establishment of governance processes to support risk management and compliance obligations.

  • Advising COO and Sourcing team on implementation of new tender management system to maximise supply chain efficiencies and procurement processes.

  • Working with expanding businesses to support growth and transformation initiatives by advising on business restructure, asset management, product launches, partnerships and vendor arrangements, with particular experience In the hospitality and technology sectors.

  • Advising financial institutions on commercial litigation and financial services disputes including matters before the Irish and English courts including £300m securities claim and credit default swap litigation.

  • Working with Finance and Operations functions in establishing new hotel assets in the US and German markets including review of HMAs, food and beverage contracts, vendor supply agreements and IP matters.
